Spent nearly four-century. Hoi An Faifoo leaving a gentle and quiet. Here, as time and space stop and even the footsteps of visitors busy both day and night are not going to make the it seem less sweet and romantic.

Hoi An area four main street Tran Phu, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Loi and Bach Dang main items sold textiles and handicrafts. During the day, Hoi An ancient houses with rows of tubes across the street from it to other cities, the moss-green tile roof and wood columns you still on the ball as three hundred years is just yesterday. This was where the Cham, the Kinh, cross-cultural definition is unique results.

Five centuries ago, the Republic of Vietnam towards the south to expand territory has left a cultural imprint very special to this small area, so that three hundred years later, the ships and merchant ships West to perform a cross-cultural local area Monday through diffusion and intentions to annexation.

Since 1998, Hoi An was back the next time 300 years ago by hanging lanterns front porch and do not use any electrical equipment usually does. Luckily, I arrived in Hoi An on the occasion of Buddha’s birthday celebration and that’s exactly the feeling dizzy when standing in the middle of the street filled with flower colors. On Thu Bon River, thousands of paper lanterns flickering glow mix with children of each town. These old houses with carved wooden columns sophisticated splendid lantern light.

Tourists like the men say, I thought what a festival is planning a 17th century city. Grocery stores, luxury fashion is to operate normally, visitors flocked to-measure, select fabric. Homes wander wide tubular front is the reception guests. The room leads to the brick courtyard full and widespread than ever, but if you look at the narrow front, not too many people think that the post-house to such a large block (a familiar architecture of China) .

Many times, I pretended to purchase, but eye gaze on leaves, inside the building, silently imagine chips century ago, how people live. But very easy to imagine, because everything is still intact, from the door pull, up to the couch, horizontal board pictures, sentences, and the mahogany walls …

Perhaps space and ancient architecture where identical Hoian people. They are affected by living space, or the people they decided to living space? I do not know. Song is like the old houses where the City Assembly, the Hoi An elegant, passionate, elegant and stylish but not especially if they first met, I felt as familiar long time close.

Although most of the old town where families are trading stores, normal everyday contact such as from their fathers a few centuries ago, but I really wonder about how to behave sincere, honest and full of their culture, culture is not perceived from the literature that absorbed from the traditional.

To any single shop in Hoi An, you can lay the test, asking price, bargain freely and after about half an hour without anything selected an item, you had to step out of the store, but how well get friendly smile if to say “Unfortunately too, the next time you remember back to the shop”.

You can press the midnight bell a pagoda to please purchase a packet of incense only, can someone ask for directions and walked two miles to get you where need to. You buy a painting at a small gallery, he’ll bring home to you, and dont forget the gift for you buy that bottle of oil and wind because you have a cough, and so on … free straight away, did not even get a thank you or to leave a name, an address. Goodbye, Hoi An, an unforgettable memory of the land, a tourist destination during the day I brought back capital Hanoi.

Tet means the first morning of the New Year in Vietnamese language and Nguyen dan is the popular name for the Vietnamese New Year. Nguyen dan begins on the first day of the first lunar month and lasts for seven days. It marks the arrival of spring and is the greatest celebration time as the festival brings along a few breaks in the agricultural year. Vietnamese New Year falls between the period of harvesting of crops and the sowing of the crops.

Nguyen dan Traditions and Customs

Vietnamese are very particular about their New Year traditions and customs. They follow all the customs earnestly and rigidly. Vietnamese believe, on this day their fate and luck for the New Year is determined. Children are told not to cry or fight and people who are in mourning are avoided.

Decorations for New Year

When New Year is near, people of Vietnam start cleaning their houses and ancestral graves. Houses are decorated with Hoi Mai (yellow flowering plant) which is supposed to bring prosperity and well-being for the family.

Some people also hang a traditional painting depicting a tale of two lovers. Vietnamese consider Tet to be the time to pay off all debts and to resolve conflicts.

Homage to Kitchen God Tao

Nguyen dan, the Vietnamese New Year is the time to pay homage to the kitchen God Tao. The custom associated with the kitchen God is observed a week before the New Year. Vietnamese believed that there are three gods represented by the three legs of the cooking equipments in the kitchen.

The middle God is a woman and the other two are her husbands. In earlier times, it was customary to provide a carp to the gods on which they can travel. The carp symbolizes the second last stage of the process by which animals were transformed into dragons. Keeping the old custom alive, people buy the carp from the market and place in the bucket of water and placed on the altar of the house which was later set free.

Vietnamese New Year Food

Vietnamese New Year food includes a special rice pudding called banh Chung or banh Tet prepared beforehand. The pudding contains mung beans and pork.

Other New Year delicacies include preserved sweets, chicken, fish, oranges, beef, grapefruits, coconuts and some seasonal fruits. Watermelon is considered the most auspicious fruit of the season as it’s flesh is red. It dried seeds are also used for various delicacies.

Cay Neu – The New Year Tree

A tradition of displaying a New Year Tree is performed with sanctity and devotion. The tree is called as Cay Neu.

A bamboo pole decorated with bells, flowers, good luck charms and streamers is placed in front of the house. The red color is considered lucky by the Vietnamese to scare off the evil the spirits. This is the last ritual, le khai ha performed on the seventh day of the Tet.

Nguyen dan Celebrations

People like to celebrate the first day of the New Year with their families and friends. They wear new clothes and children give traditional greetings to their elders before receiving the New Year gifts from them. People with happy experience over the last year are invited as the first person to enter the house. This act is called as Xong dat in Vietnamese.

The middle of the day observes an offering to the ancestors of the family on the altar of the household and incense is also burnt. It is performed every day throughout the festival. On the second day of the New Year, people visit their in-laws and other relatives. On the third day, they visit the family of their teachers and some distant relatives.

People also visit Buddha temples or other holy places on this day. They bring back flowers as a gift which are kept all year to bring in good health and prosperity for the family.

Fortune – telling is the most popular activity of the New Year celebrations. Experts forecasts people’s future based on Truyen Kieu (a famous poem). Some traditional dragon dances are also preformed on this day. A few rich people pay for these dancers to perform at their house. Children also enjoy the festival as they get to play all day.

In the Asian lunar calendar, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, which makes it a perfect time to plan a trip to Vietnam, the country shaped like a sinuous dragon. According to mythology, the Vietnamese people stem from the union of a dragon and a fairy and the dragon is one of the main symbols of Vietnam.

The word for dragon in Vietnamese is ‘Rong’, or ‘Long’, and many places across the country are named after dragons or have dragon legends attached to them.

Perhaps the most well known is the thousand year old capital, Hanoi, which was originally called ‘Thang Long’ (Rising Dragon). As the story goes, in 1010 King Ly Thai To wanted to relocate the capital from Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh province and chose a central, low lying site to the northeast in an area known as Long Do (the Dragon’s Navel). He apparently saw a cloud hovering just above what is now called West Lake (in the northern part of the city), which morphed into a dragon, rose up from the water and disappeared into the heavens. He perceived this as a good omen and decided to establish the capital where it still stands to this day.

Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province, one of the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World, is the Bay of the Descending Dragon with Bai Tu Long (Little Dragon Bowing to Its Mother) Bay to the east and Cat Ba Island, formerly known as Phu Long (Floating Dragon), to the southeast.

Many mountains in Vietnam are associated with dragons, such as Long Doi (Hill of Dragons) in northern Ha Nam province, Long Tu (Dragon’s Moustache) in Quang Ninh province and Long Truong (Mother Dragon Surrounded by Her Children) in Ha Tinh, as well as the Thanh Long (Blue Dragon) mountain in Quang Binh and the Rong (Dragon) mountain range in Thua Tien-Hue.

Dragon images appear in many forms across Vietnamese art. They feature in numerous poems and paintings, and temples, pagodas and communal houses are full of exquisite dragons carved in wood and stone.

The dragon also symbolizes water, which is essential for agriculture, the mainstay of the Vietnamese economy throughout history. It embodies the power, prosperity and spirit of the people as well as the strength of the nation and its long, proud, and noble history.

The Year of the Dragon is an auspicious time to visit Vietnam, truly a country of dragons, and experience the wonders of its traditions as well as its progression into the future.

Temporarily away from the sunny south, I began exploration of the Northwest that Dien Bien is the last stop.Having heard of these places long past history and the media, but can go and order a new experience to feel all the beauty and tourism potential of the midlands is a time glorious.

From Ho Chi Minh City there are many ways to go to Dien Bien. Can fly direct from Noi Bai airport to Dien Bien. This is considered the most convenient and leisurely, but people rarely travel this approach. For me, the most interesting is the sugar free romantic conquest of northwestern clouds clear, so I chose to take the train from Hanoi to Lao Cai, Lao Cai and then catch bus to Sa Pa – Lai Chau – Dien Bien.

There is also another way, that is from Hanoi along National Highway No. 6 to Hoa Binh – Lai Chau – Dien Bien. In July West highland crops should have to choose whether to Dien Bien How can admire the panoramic terraces fertile as the eyes of travelers.

If asked what Dien Bien beauty is sure many people would answer that is the same street. Railway seems to Dien Bien journey through the beautiful land of renowned Northwest. An air port Sa Pa innocent beauty, clear; a sunken between Lai Chau Hung Vy mountains; a quiet village of Ta Phin side slopes.

Railway also take me through the Nam Na River meandering romantic. River, spring floor roof folds of black stones, gold and gray of the Thai people’s hidden behind the trees green.

All villages to the image of peace and quiet. Unfortunately, after the round of placer gold mining, the riverbed was serious changes, the river seemed intense and louder after each flood on.

Speaking to the Northwest, no one knows no one “Dien Bien shaken, shaken the earth.” According to reference information prior to Dien Bien, I began the journey to visit the cellar Do Cat, Muong Thanh bridge, monument hill A1.

And do not forget to visit the cemetery heroic martyrs in Dien Bien Phu, a lit incense commemorate those who fell, and then leisurely to Dien Bien Phu Museum, which showcases artifacts are plentiful in the resistance war, contributing to the victory of Dien Bien.

It remains historically over half a century ago that a new thought yesterday. The main national cultural values that form the tourism potential for the area of Dien Bien.

If asked Dien Bien surprisingly, the answer would be the beauty of cultural minorities. The terraces stretch blue tit pull, connecting with the green of trees, the leaves run up to the horizon. The folds of the looming ethnic people, between earth and sky visibility Northwest.

The folk dances where both bearing deep culture of ethnic groups, has shown high art through every step, dance. In each dance also contains heart, emotion and reinforcement of the mountain people.

The most typical is the barbecue, also known as “Lam Nho” (“lam” is baked, “Nho” is like). Cattle and poultry to seafood … all can be grilled.

Move out of meat, spices, and using bamboo skewers or clamps placed on charcoal grill. Or take chopped meat, squeeze the puree with the eggs, then wrapped with banana leaves, leaf line, clamp the red or charcoal grill over hot ashes buried. It showed how great the steaks, the meat cooked just keep an aromatic, food not being bored.

There are countless other unique culture in this region Active: want to explore to the end it took little time. End of the journey, I suddenly want to go back here again in the spring, the season of love and festivity.
